Osgoth's sword still needed to be enhanced so they all go to see Rooner at the bazaar. He promises that he will keep an ear out for caravan guard work going north. Getting quickly bored they wander off in small groups to the docks. Morlaf chooses to practice his new spells on the wharf and the resulting thunderclap makes some sailors spill their rum. As the bar brawl ensues it turns nasty when Ulalume stabs a man in the back instead of using the acceptable brawl tactic of hitting him over the head with a chair. Swords are drawn and seamen start pouring out of the Octopus' Feeler Inn. Makfire, his bear and Morlaf are unconscious and Ulalume is slain when Osgoth and Hydrix join the bloodbath. The remaining seamen scatter as the city guard arrive. The first guard tries to apprehend Hydrix who is looting Ulalume's corpse. Instead of yielding to the law Osgoth punches him out and they run away to another part of the city leaving their unconscious cohorts to be apprehended.
Morlaf quickly bribes his way out of the cells and spends fruitless hours searching for the now elusive Osgoth and Hydrix.
Makfire befriends a rat and while waiting for it to fetch the door keys he is visited by the Inquisitor and Rooner is called for assistance as a character witness.
Morlaf invisibly helps Makfire out of gaol now that the rat has got the keys and they try escaping, bear and all, but Morlaf has to use a rope trick before they are all surrounded by guards.
Hydrix sends out her walking Psi-gem and discovers that Vincent has been called to dispel their hideaway but he haggles for more pay. She starts to concoct a plan. While the captain and the clerk scrounge for the needed gold; Hydrix buys a fireball scroll and uses it on the gaol walls as a distraction. The others being tucked away in their extra-dimensional space fail to notice the huge explosion. After more hours pass Morlaf learns enough Invisibility spells for them all to creep out through the main gate.
They all go back to the Wyvern Inn to plan their next move.
