Back in Gaol

The Dark Avengers are lined up against the wall.
Morlaf continues to protest that he hasn’t done anything. Henry confers with the clerics and they cast Zone of Truth; asking each in turn about the murder in the north. Both Trixie and Hydrix have to admit their guilt. The rest are cleared but Osgoth did just kill many guards. Morlaf and Makfire are released and Makfire eyeballs the guard who gave the killing blow to Yogi. The other three are taken to offices and are told to wait. It doesn’t take Hydrix long to open the small window but a guard has been posted outside and shouts “Oi!”

Hydrix winds the guard with a Concussion spell but a scream from along the alley tells her her escape has been spotted. She just closes the window and tries to look all innocent.

Trixie picks the lock and sniggers when the guards try and open the door; she has locked herself in. It takes a while to get the keys by which time she unlocked the door again but doesn’t try and escape.

Morlaf arranges for their carriage to be ready.

Makfire posing as the council of the accused gets in to see Osgoth. He makes a show of taking notes and gets Osgoth to sign the statement but it is just a secret note and they have made plans to escape.

While this is happening the guards take Hydrix outside and put her in some newly erected stocks.

Makfire and Morlaf check out the alleyway. The windows are being barred so they cannot now escape that way. They go to the Duke’s Head to plan further.

The prisoners are moved in the evening so that when Morlaf and Makfire return there is no sign of them. They find Henry’s house and Morlaf Charms him into telling them their location. A makeshift gaol has been made of the Cake Shop.

Makfire gets the carriage ready while turning invisible Morlaf sidles past the guard and opens the door. The guard inside says “What’s going on?” Morlaf casts knock, opens the door and the jig is up. He uses the Dust of Disappearance to make the others invisible. They sneak past the guards who are waving their hands and swords in the air in front of them trying to catch the escapees. Everyone but Osgoth manages it but he tarries in the gaol getting their gear and the guards hack him down. The guards run out and split up searching for the rest. Morlaf runs back and finds Osgoth by touch giving him a potion and they take the gear to the carriage while Makfire kills the guard who went in his direction. They all pile into the carriage and gallop towards the West Gate but this is locked for the night. They head for the North Gate and it’s great double doors are half open. Morlaf casts Change Self to make him look like a half elf and tries to cast Lightning but suffers a chaos surge and nothing seems to happen. He casts his last Lightning spell and blasts the gate off its hinges. The carriage drives through with him waving from the carriage shouting “I am Oibilointent von Genshler. Remember my name!”

They drive to Borderdale and Makfire sets a shepherds hut on fire. They sleep in the carriage some way off. Trixie spots a Zombie bear by the lights of the burning hut while the others are sleeping. She wakes Makfire who destroys it before it can hurt anybody.

In the morning Makfire razes another house and they head north along the disused track. Entering the forest they find it has begun to reclaim the road. A lone undead squirrel drops on Hydrix but it is blasted with a mere thought from her powerful mind.

They sleep in the carriage again and a pack of zombie wolverines attack in the early hours. They are quickly dealt with but their rest has been disturbed too much by the end of it.

Setting of as soon as dawn breaks they make good time and break out of the forest early in the day. The dales stretch before them and just before sunset they see shaggy cattle being spooked by something off the road ahead. Makfire spots a large hole in the ground and steers the carriage towards it but the ground erupts in front of horses. A huge beast scatters earth as it strikes at the lead horse. The Ankheg grabs it and the horse quickly stops struggling. The other three whinny in terror. Hydrix and Osgoth try to release the horse from the carriage while Mafire shots at it. Morlaf releases a Lightning bolt and it drops the dead horse. The horse is freed from the carriage and it lurches forward as they are no longer being held back. Hydrix and Osgoth fall from the carriage and Hyrix gets trampled. The monster is quickly finished off.
