After a good sleep we contemplated out next move over breakfast, and laughed at Morlaf failing (twice) to identify a weird magical "tree" we acquired on our 1st day.
With our tummies full we start getting anxious about our next move. Morlaf spots a BIG chap outside which he recognises as Artemes’s bodyguard! Unbeknown to us he is waiting to rendezvous with us! But our keen adventuring prowess has us quaking in our boots. All apart from Braylec, who has to be persuaded to lie in wait. Lawrence chats to the barman, while Gondar "goes off" to spy on the bodyguard and Jutiapa does her bit by sending her rat across roof tops to get into the house the body guard seems to be guarding! When she decided to follow her rat Morlaf gropes her bottom in the pretence of helping her up! He gets slapped about the face (again). Once Jutiapa is on the roof she immediately demonstrates how much of her rat’s dexterity she lacks by toppling over and seriously hurting herself! Lawrence decides to show her how it is done. He follows suit and hurts himself badly, too.
After recovering from laughing Braylec cannot be held back any longer! Swords in hands he leaps out for a ferocious charge attack. This "big" chap is overwhelmed. Braylec cleaves him up something silly in 2 rounds. While the mages pretend to offer a helping hand by weakening him and freezing him. Before long Braylec and the rest are hurling the corpse into the house. They proceed to loot his corpse with an irreverence for the dead that had to be seen to be believed! Gondar shares some gold and a positively dodgy potion with Jutiapa. Lawrence nicks his boots, Braylec his bastard sword and Jutiapa a necklace. With that out of the way, the corpse gets placed where it rightfully belongs: down the rubbish shoot!
House is empty and silent as far as we can detect. So Braylec goes on the rampage! All the doors get smashed, but the party has found no one (apart from Jutiapa’s trusty familiar!). A few chests, empty beds, indecipherable papers, some clothes, and some tankards of alcoholic beverages later and the house is fully explored. Yet we are getting nowhere. Apart from Gondar, that is. In particular he is getting out of the window, on next door’s roof and out of sight. Trouble is here. This time in the form of the militia. Lawrence and Jutiapa make their way out of windows and down dark alleyways. They are getting more like Gondar each day. A lesson Braylec and Morlaf have difficulty grasping, as they get arrested again. Before the escorted Morlaf and Braylec are out of sight, Gondar, Lawrence and Jutiapa are back into the house looting! Even their familiars are ordered to carry some loot. Chests, entire wardrobes of costumes, barrels of ale, papers, … the lot. Several gondolier trips are made and the entire contents of the house are cleared!
Mean time, Morlaf and Braylec keep the rats in the jail company. Morlaf’s been awake for almost 10 hours now so the tries to sleep and gets bitten by a rat. In a few minutes the wound is festering. Fortunately Lawrence decides to pay us a visit. Unfortunately he brings Gondar along, who opens all the cells! Lawrence has mild argument with the receptionist, then the sergeant and finally the Captain but eventually manages to free his bodyguard (Braylec) and his jester (Morlaf).
Our party then splits up:
Morlaf sticks with the plan. Cure whatever he might have caught from the filthy rodent in the jail and back to the inn for sleep!
Gondar continues unsuccessfully, to try to pick open some chests.
Jutiapa is back at the inn doing … mage stuff.
Lawrence and his "bodyguard" try to sell some loot! Manage to get nowhere with the cattle merchants but have limited success with cloth merchants. Once returning to the inn, the spell casters are fast asleep. Lawrence meets up with a person the barman told him about. He goes by the name of Ralph and he opens things. Before Ralph has a chance to show his lock picking skills Lawrence shows him the "indecipherable" documents and Ralph takes off faster than you can say "this looks well dodgy". All the commotion wakes everyone up and yes, Morlaf is NOT impressed but before Ralph is out the front door, Morlaf is fast asleep again.
At about 5am our valiant (and sleepy) adventurers get cruelly woken again. Morlaf is well miffed by this point and lets everyone know about it. Gondar is off. There must be trouble just round the corner again! Sure enough the people at the door get VERY unfriendly and arrows start flying in through the windows! Lawrence and Braylec react in an amazingly efficient method. Door held shut by loads of beds. The window assault is repelled swiftly. Lawrence torched one chap that attempted to infiltrate our "safe" haven and Braylec practically fed his sword to another. Braylec repels our door-assault by shoving a massive sword through it! While all this is happening Morlaf tried to dispel all doubt about his insanity by huddling in the corner frantically revising spells! As the door catches fire Gondar "reappears" and tells us all is clear out of the window. Our valiant adventurers leg it! Morlaf legs it best of all and while the bodies of the attackers in the courtyard are looted he is half way down the alleyway. Their efforts to loot the corpse is interrupted this time by a collapsing, blazing inn. By which time Morlaf has a gondolier waiting and we make safe passage to our other refuse: The "Flying Squirrel".
Having lost our attackers we can rest! Morlaf sleeps some more and eventually identifies the magic item we acquired on the 7th as a mere plant-growth-assisting item but guesses at more powers he cannot understand! A decent locksmith is employed and the chests are finally opened! Some semi-interesting loot, non of which is magical to Jutiapa’s disappointment.
At this point we give up on the task Sores set for us. We return our licences and decide to leave through the north gate.
Lawrence suggests employing the blind, tradesman from yesterday. We ignore him.
Lawrence suggests we choose a party name. We ignore him….
In brief:
Glantri is not to be our home for more than 3 days! The mission set out by Sores seems to have skipped "bad" is going from worse to disastrous. Little success, little wealth, little experience and valuable friends, is all that is gained. After surviving Braylec’s short temper, Morlaf’s chaos, Jutiapa’s evil presence, Gondar’s vanishing acts and Lawrence’s voice of reason the bunch is becoming more of a party. And as party they move on!
